More than 70 budding rock stars from local companies across Perth have signed up to take part in WA’s inaugural Boardroom Blitz presented by iiNet, a corporate rock charity event to raise funds for Princess Margaret Hospital.
Eight bands will take to the stage at Challenge Stadium on Saturday August 23 to live their 15 minutes of fame and vie for the title of ‘Best Blitz Band’. Teams from iiNet, Hawaiian, JWH Group, AXIS, City of Belmont, Kosmic, Land Band and Perth Home Care Services are all taking part, and will be belting out tunes from legendary artists including Queen, AC/DC and Joan Jett.
All the bands have been busy rehearsing and are receiving coaching by professional musicians from local bands and music academies.
Osborne Park based Perth Home Care Services is one of the companies that will be participating in Boardroom Blitz. PHCS Systems and Development Manager Melissa Young (pictured top left with other band members) said she was extremely proud of her company’s commitment to the event.
“As we are a not for profit organisation, our band, PHoCuS wanted to make sure our contribution came from us as well as our organization. PHoCuS, was required to come up with a significant proportion of the entry cost, which obviously required great dedication on behalf of our band members, ” Ms Young said.
“We’ve even hired a local church to do a pre-performance to our staff on 12th August as we are taking the event so seriously. We’re really looking forward to getting on stage and performing with the support of staff, family and friends.” she added.
“We have a specific relationship to PMH as we provide services in the home for children who are dependent on medical technology to keep them living at home with their families.”
Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation events coordinator, Rebecca Stewart, said Boardroom Blitz is the biggest corporate rock charity event ever attempted in WA.
“We are creating an opportunity for corporate bands to join the challenge and be a rock star for the night. All the rockers will live the dream with proceeds going to help the children at PMH. This is a really exciting event for us and we are looking forward to seeing just how much musical talent is out there in the corporate sector."
Ms Stewart added that proceeds will be used to fund a state-of-the-art operating microscope for the hospital. “This world-class equipment will be used by plastic surgeons to carry out reconstructive, micro-vascular, nerve and emergency surgery on children ranging from newborns to adolescents,” she said.
Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation is an independent non-profit organisation that raises funds exclusively for PMH, providing funding for medical equipment, research, scholarships, capital works, education and expertise.
The general public is invited to come along and watch the Boardroom Blitz spectacle. Tickets, starting from only $30, can be purchased by phoning PMH Foundation on 9489 1100. Standing room tickets will also be available at the door on the night.
