West Australian firefighters are putting their bodies on the line to raise money for Princess Margaret Hospital’s burns unit.
Perth firefighter Dave Ellis said one of the most devastating impacts of house fires is injury to children.
“Children who receive burn injuries face a grueling recovery program that is emotional, painful and hard work.
“Perth firefighters are proud to be associated with PMH Burns Unit and continue to support the recovery of children.”
Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation CEO Vern Reid said the financial support provided by groups like the Fire and Rescue Service, both financially and through ward visits with children made a strong contribution to the children’s ongoing welfare.
The firefighters have produced a calendar and hope to raise more than $30,000 for the hospital.
“A career firefighter needs to be focused, clear thinking, well trained and physically fit,” firefighter Ellis said.
“It’s a sought after profession that only accepts the highest calibre of applicants.
“The calendar is a fun approach to the hard work undertaken by firefighters in protecting the community.”
Copies of the calendar are available from PMH Foundation, 254 Railway Parade, West Leederville for $10.00.
Some proceeds will also go towards supporting a West Australian team at the World Police and Firefighter Games in Canada in 2009.
