Stitches Megazone
Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation is proud to support the hospital's fantastic play area, the Megazone. The Foundation raised $2.3 million to build the Megazone and through its partnership with The Good Guys, now provides annual funding to staff and equip the facility which is situated on the top floor of the hospital.
The Megazone was built to 'heal through happiness' providing play areas to assist the developmental needs of patients. The area provides a comfortable space for families to be together, away from the ward. While children are playing, parents can relax in a comforting environment knowing their children are happy and entertained.
The facility also gives children access to a huge range of activities. There are specialist areas for arts and crafts, reading and general play. Other features include a collection of arcade games, a 64-seat theatre, fantastic outdoor play area, a sensory room and the Joan Longley Basketball Court.
To celebrate its 10th anniversary, the hospital's fabulous play area threw open its doors for a birthday party at the end of June and all children and families staying or visiting the hospital were invited to attend.
And, as you would expect at a birthday party, there was a delicious cake to add to the fun and frivolity, which was enjoyed by both children and parents alike.
And the great news is that the Megazone will soon be undergoing a huge $150,000 makeover, made possible thanks to money raised by PMH Foundation.
The Foundation is planning to purchase new arcade games and new computers and video games.
PMH Foundation Head of Fundraising, Ian de Nazareth says over the last decade the Megazone has provided a safe and supportive environment for kids at PMH and has been a great way to improve their experience when staying in hospital.
