RESEARCH
Medical research plays a critical role in pioneering new ways to prevent, treat and cure complex, life-limiting and often life-threatening illnesses. Princess Margaret Hospital for Children (PMH) is proud of its commitment to medical research and as a leading teaching hospital aims to further its research initiatives in order to improve clinical outcomes both locally and internationally.
Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation provides seed capital to hospital researchers to enable them to conduct investigative studies into their specialist area of paediatric health. This funding provides vital support at the primary stage of the project. If the initial exploratory work proves worthwhile, the hospital and the researcher may use the results gained initially to seek large-scale external funding to support the completion of the project, often requiring multi-million dollar financing over many years.
Recently funded research projects include:
- Three-dimensional facial growth study aiming to find better ways to treat cleft lip and palate disorders
- World-leading asthma research
- Study of markers detecting oxidative stress-induced lung injury in children with cystic fibrosis
